What is a Text to TSV Converter?

This online tool converts fixed-width plain-text columns into Tab Separated Values (TSV) data. Text columns appear aligned because values are padded with spaces, but those spaces are only visual spacing, not reliable field separators. This makes plain-text columns easy to read by eye but harder to paste into spreadsheets, parse with scripts, or reuse as structured data. This converter reads the aligned column positions, detects where the visual columns start, treats each column area as a cell, trims excess padding, and writes the cells back as TSV records with real tab characters between fields. Before the TSV output is created, you can clean the text by skipping blank rows and omitting note rows that start with a comment marker, such as "#". The column-name option lets you keep the first row as TSV column names, or omit it when you only need data rows. In the output options, you can choose the quote character for TSV cells and wrap every generated cell in quotes when you need a fully quoted TSV file. In this example, we turn an aligned order list into TSV records. The tool first cleans the input by removing the blank row and skipping the note row marked with "#". It also omits the first text row, so the output starts with the order data.

Create Quoted Museum TSV
In this example, we convert a three-column curator table into TSV and quote every generated cell. When TSV is viewed as plain text, tab spacing may not align columns evenly, and tabs can be hard to distinguish from spaces inside values such as "red room". Quoting every cell makes each value explicit, while tabs still separate the artifact, room, and action columns.
